Thursday, 02 December 2021

The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) held the “2021 Journalist Training” for journalists specializing in the financial sector. The training was aimed at reinforcing knowledge on banking supervisory and regulatory matters.

“Panama is immersed in a decisive moment of its economic development, which demands from financial supervisory bodies a close monitoring of the operations of the players in the market, where journalists are an essential part to continue spreading truthful information, which will help to reactivate and strengthen the economy of the country,” said Amauri A. Castillo, Superintendent of Banks, during his opening remarks.

The virtual modality utilized this year, for the first time ever, allowed to have the participation of journalists from the provinces of Chiriquí, Colón, and Herrera.

The agenda included the analysis of the performance of the banking sector in a pandemic context; understanding operational and credit risks; SBP’s regulatory roadmap; and the SBP’s role in raising financial culture in Panama.

The Superintendent said that “there are clear signs of economic reactivation in the country, which is reflected in the performance of the Banking System by granting new loans, an indicator that is of utmost importance and highly positive for Panama’s economy.”

“At the Superintendency of Banks we will keep ensuring the stability of our economic and financial system and the judicial certainty between the banking system and its clients,” the Superintendent reiterated.
