As part of the official visit to the country, the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was received by the Superintendent of Banks, Milton Ayón Wong, along with his technical team.
During the meeting, the parties discussed matters related to Panama’s economic and financial situation, within the context of the IMF’s annual review of the Republic of Panama under Article IV of the institution.
Superintendent Ayón emphasized that the IMF’s visit represents a highly valuable opportunity for technical exchange, allowing the Superintendency to present the progress achieved by Panama’s banking system and to strengthen joint analysis of the challenges and opportunities in financial regulation and supervision.
The IMF mission will carry out an extensive agenda of meetings with representatives of the public and private sectors, as well as various economic stakeholders, with the objective of gaining a comprehensive view of the country’s macroeconomic performance.
The visiting group is led by Bas Bakker and includes a team of economists and specialists from the IMF who are monitoring the evolution of Panama’s economy and the strengthening of its financial system.
