The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) was among the outstanding organizations at the recognition ceremony for the Reduce Your Corporate Footprint Program (RTH Corporativo), organized by the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) through its Climate Change Directorate (DCC).
The banking regulator was honored for its significant progress in managing its environmental footprint, joining the group of companies leading the transition toward a low‑carbon economy and a responsible water management.
In the carbon footprint category, five companies were recognized for carbon neutrality, ten for reduction, twenty‑one for inventory, and 117 for compiling their greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory. Regarding the water footprint, nine organizations were highlighted for reduction, twenty‑one for quantification, and four for their recent enrollment in the program.
These outcomes reflect the growing commitment of Panama’s business sector to sustainability. By receiving this recognition, the SBP reaffirms its leadership in climate action and its concrete contribution to developing a more resilient and environmentally mindful nation.
Initiatives like this help forge partnerships across the public sector, private enterprises, and civil society—making sustainability a shared priority for Panama’s present and future.
The event took place today at the Panama Marriott Hotel, with the aim of honoring the efforts of organizations that successfully completed the 2023–2024 cycle of the program.
RTH Corporativo is the first voluntary state program in Panama focused on organizational management of carbon and water footprints. Its purpose is to foster a sustainable corporate culture that is resource‑responsible and proactive in addressing climate change.
It's important to highlight that this program is part of the National Reduce Your Footprint Program (PNRTH) and is aligned with the national climate commitments established in the Paris Agreement.
