Friday, 05 December 2025

The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) continues to promote the country on the international stage, this time at the 2025 Panama Week South Africa, an initiative organized by the Embassy of Panama in South Africa to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and commercial relations between the two countries. This event seeks to foster a strategic partnership, aligning with Panama's objective of expanding cooperation with Africa and leveraging South Africa's strategic location.

At this event, the SBP participated to boost the international profile of Panama's Banking Center. During the event, Kathy de Guardia, Director of International Affairs and Projects at the SBP, highlighted the value and strength of the International Banking Center (IBC), promoting new strategic connections with one of the most influential markets on the African continent.

From December 1 to 4, the SBP shared Panama's regulatory experience at the Banking Forum panel with experts from the South African financial sector, including Olano Makhubela, Director of Market Integrity at the Reserve Bank of South Africa, renowned for his expertise in integrity and consumer protection. This exchange strengthened Panama's technical presence and paved the way for future collaborations.

The event was attended by prominent national leaders, such as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Hoyos, Minister of Commerce and Industries Julio Moltó, Giulia De Sanctis, President of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE), and Temístocles Rosas, former Vice Minister of Domestic Trade, who accompanied this delegation.

The SBP thus reaffirms its commitment to the global projection of the Panamanian banking system: a joint effort that fosters opportunities, strengthens alliances, and positions Panama as a benchmark of stability and confidence internationally.
