The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) informs the public that, amid institutional mourning following the passing of Rafael Guardia Pérez (may he rest in peace) on July 22, it has acted swiftly and responsibly to reconfigure its Board of Directors.
By means of Resolution SBP‑JD‑R‑2025‑00437, approved on July 25, and in accordance with Article 8 of the Banking Law, Director Adriana Raquel Carles has been appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors
Director Carles, with a solid professional background and strong institutional commitment, will hold the position until December 15, 2025, when the current term ends.
Her appointment offers continuity, instills confidence, and ensures strategic leadership for the International Banking Center.
Likewise, Director Felipe Echandi Lacayo has been appointed Secretary of the Board of Directors and will serve until the end of the current term.
Mr. Echandi, known for his technological focus and deep understanding of the financial environment, he reinforces the institution’s forward thinking and technical stance.
This succession process reaffirms the SBP’s commitment to transparency, institutional integrity, and compliance with its legal duties—even in the most sensitive moments.
