SBP Strengthens Regulatory Coordination with Two-Year Extension of Cross-Directorship

Wednesday, 12 August 2026

The Board of Directors of the Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP), through Resolution SBP-JD-R-2026-00479, dated July 14, 2026, approved the extension of the appointments of David Alberto Davarro Palacios and María De Lourdes Marengo Calderón as cross-directors on the Boards of Directors of the Superintendency of the Securities Market (SMV) and the Superintendency of Insurance and Reinsurance of Panama (SSRP), respectively, for a two-year term beginning August 16, 2026.

The renewal of both appointments strengthens coordination among the supervisory authorities of Panama’s financial system and provides continuity to the governance mechanisms established under national legislation to promote more integrated and efficient supervision.

David Alberto Davarro Palacios will continue to represent the SBP on the Board of Directors of the SMV, pursuant to Law 67 of 2011, while María De Lourdes Marengo Calderón will continue to represent the SBP on the Board of Directors of the SSRP, pursuant to Law 12 of 2012.

These appointments strengthen institutional cooperation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and contribute to greater alignment of regulatory policies across the banking, securities, and insurance sectors, thereby supporting the stability and soundness of Panama’s financial system.
