SBP Pays Posthumous Tribute to Rafael Guardia Pérez with the Unveiling of a Boardroom Named in His Honor

The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) held a solemn ceremony in honor of the memory of Mr. Rafael Guardia Pérez, a former member of its Board of Directors, in recognition of his invaluable contributions, leadership, and commitment to institutional strengthening and the development of the International Banking Center.

The ceremony was attended by the institution’s highest authorities, members of the Board of Directors, and, most especially, members of Mr. Guardia Pérez’s family, led by his wife, Saríah Sandoval, along with his father, siblings, and children.

During the event, the Superintendent of Banks, Milton Ayón Wong, highlighted the integrity, vision, and vocation of service that defined Rafael Guardia Pérez’s professional and personal legacy, underscoring his contributions to strengthening best practices in banking supervision and enhancing the prestige of Panama’s financial system.

As part of the tribute, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Felipe Echandi, presented a commemorative plaque to the family as a token of institutional appreciation for the legacy left by Mr. Guardia.

The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque officially designating the space as the “Rafael Guardia Pérez Boardroom,” carried out by Mrs. Saríah Sandoval together with the Superintendent of Banks.

Through this gesture, the institution immortalizes his memory and reaffirms the values of leadership, commitment, ethics, and excellence that Rafael Guardia Pérez embodied.

In this way, the SBP honors the life and legacy of Rafael Guardia Pérez, remembering him with respect, gratitude, and admiration, while reaffirming the commitment to the principles he upheld throughout his professional life.
