Technical staff from the Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) actively participated in the 34th Latin American Trust Congress (COLAFI) 2025, held from October 1 to 3 in Antigua, Guatemala. This event brought together fiduciary and financial experts from across Latin American to exchange experiences and analyze the most relevant trends in the trust industry.
Representing the SBP, the Manager of Trust Prevention, Luis Sánchez Morillo, participated as a panelist in the session entitled "Beneficial Ownership in Trusts: Transparency as a Pillar of Compliance," where the importance of correctly identifying the beneficial owner and its role in strengthening transparency and preventing financial risks was addressed.
The Manager of Fiduciary Prevention was accompanied by technical staff from the SBP's Regulation, Supervision of Financial Intermediaries and Fiduciaries, Legal Affairs, and Prevention of Money Laundering and Illicit Operations departments.
During the conference, key topics were discussed, including:
• New regulatory trends in the region.
• The integration of digital assets and tokenization in fiduciary structures.
• The role of trusts in asset protection and business continuity.
• The sustainability and development of projects through trusts.
The SBP's participation in this international forum reaffirms its commitment to technical development, effective supervision, and the strengthening of the fiduciary system in Panama and the region.
