IBC Shows Solid Performance and Sustained Growth in the 2026 First Quarter

Thursday, 30 April 2026

The International Banking Center (IBC) reaffirmed its strength by maintaining a robust financial position, supported by adequate prudential buffers and stable asset quality at an aggregate level. This performance reflects its capacity to adapt and manage prudently in an environment characterized by compressed financial margins and elevated funding costs, according to the Banking Activity Report (IAB) published by the Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP).

IBC deposits totaled USD 118,521.6 million, representing a 6.59% increase, with domestic deposits rising by 2.40% and external deposits by 13.03%.

Deposits from individuals (both domestic and external) reached USD 93,910.6 million, accounting for 79.2% of total deposits and explaining 95.6% of the increase in funding, highlighting that the funding base is supported by a granular and diversified component.

Meanwhile, the IBC’s net loan portfolio grew by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching USD 101,414.5 million—an increase of USD 3,767.7 million from USD 97,646.7 million recorded in the previous year.

Net assets of the IBC amounted to USD 164,208.5 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.50%, or USD 7,078.7 million more compared to the same period of the previous year, when they stood at USD 157,129.8 million.

Banks continue to show stable financial soundness indicators, with liquidity and solvency ratios of 55.51% and 16.27%, respectively. These figures exceed the regulatory minimum requirements (30% and 8%), demonstrating the strong capacity of IBC banks to maintain adequate capital levels.

The SBP will continue to apply a supervisory approach focused on preserving financial soundness, promoting best practices in risk management, asset quality, capital adequacy, and operational efficiency, in order to ensure the stability and sustainability of the banking system.
