SBP Participates in the 40th 2025 Latin American Banking Security Congress (CELAES)

Friday, 03 October 2025

The Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) joined the 40th Latin American Congress on Banking Security (CELAES 2025), held in Panama on October 2 and 3 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Convention Center.

The event was inaugurated by Giorgio Trettenero Castro, General Secretary of the Latin American Federation of Banks (FELABAN), who delivered the opening remarks. He emphasized that in an increasingly interconnected digital world, cybercriminals pose a constant threat and that no bank is completely shielded from attacks.

In this context, Trettenero underscored that cooperation among banks, supervisory authorities, and multilateral organizations is essential to raising protection standards and mitigating cyber risks.

Throughout the event, experts urged banking institutions to continue investing in cybersecurity—highlighting that it is not an expense, but rather an essential investment—and to strengthen the chain of trust, a critical line of defense for maintaining stability and confidence in the region’s financial system.
